Department of Civil Engineering Vision, Mission and Goals

The Civil Engineering (CE) Department is one of the departments in the Faculty of Engineering & IT at the Emirates International University. The Department is established in 2014. The department has highly-qualified Lecturers and supporting lab engineers and technicians. Their specializations and expertise span the main disciplines of modern civil engineering, including: Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering Materials, Management, Transportation Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Surveying. The CE Department offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (BSc.).

The Civil Engineering Program offered by Civil Engineering (CE) Department is a four-year program fully accredited by the Yemen Ministry of Higher Education. The Program is designed to reflect the special needs of the Republic of Yemen and the region in the development of structures and infrastructure for the benefit of the community.

Pioneering in qualifying distinguished engineers to national and regional levels in Civil Engineering fields, execution of scientific researches, updating with the developed science and latest careers.

Department Mission

To provide excellent educational and research services through high quality programs, encouragement of students' creations and inventions in Civil Engineering fields, and enhance the partnerships with society at national and regional levels.

Department Objectives

1- Provide a high quality educational experience of core engineering subject areas for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

2- Distinguished contribution to build a knowledge society and providing research services both at local and regional levels in the fields of civil engineering.

3- To deliver programs which equips graduates with a high level of understanding of Civil Engineering concept complemented by professional, practical, and transferable skills that enable graduates to solve a wide range of Civil Engineering problems.

4- Serving the labor market's needs through the consultancy, research, laboratory tests and training services.

 

Program Mission, Goals, and Outcomes

Program Mission:

To prepare civil engineers having broad-theoretical knowledge and well-trained skills need to meet national and regional levels and to be able to solve engineering problems related to civil engineering.

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates of the Civil Engineering Program at Emirate International University are expected to:

  1. Apply the knowledge of engineering fundamentals and practical skills to solve civil engineering problems within their professions.
  2. Design and implement creative and sustainable solutions that meet society needs and improve the quality of life.
  3. Participate professionally performing engineering tasks with ethical principles and professional responsibilities.
  4. Exhibit strong communication, critical thinking, interpersonal, and management skills as leaders and contributors in the civil engineering profession.
  5. Equip with transferable skills, research capability and long life learning skill.

Learning Outcomes

A. Knowledge and Understanding:

Upon successful completion of an undergraduate Civil Engineering Program, graduates should be able to demonstrate understanding and knowledge of:

A1.      Understanding Applying mathematics and science for civil engineering subject areas.

A2. Demonstrate understanding the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context for serving the society.

A3. Describe project management, civil engineering practices, codes and standards.

A4. Demonstrate understanding the contemporary issues related to civil engineering area.

B. Cognitive/ Intellectual Skills:

Upon successful completion of an undergraduate Civil Engineering program, graduates should be able to:

B1.       Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems and to be able to evaluate and synthesize information and develop alternative solutions

B2.       Choose appropriate mathematical and computer-based methods for analyzing engineering problems

B3.       Collect and analyze and interpret data from experiments and field work

C. Practical and Professional Skills:

Upon successful completion of an undergraduate Civil Engineering program, graduates should be able to:

C1.  Apply techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary to civil engineering practice

C2.  Investigate civil engineering systems and to be able to design and conduct experiments as well as to validate data.

C3.  Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs with realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, ethical, health and safety, and sustainability.

C4.       Use codes of practice and standards professionally to solve civil engineering problems.

D. General and Transferable Skills:

Upon successful completion of an undergraduate Civil Engineering program, graduates should be able to:

D1.  Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.

D2.  Uphold the ethic of engineering practice.

D3.  Communicate effectively using written, oral and graphical skills

D4.  Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in life-long learning

D5.      Manage workloads, time, projects and people effectively and safely
