To commemorate the Prophet's Hijra, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and the Ashura commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, the Emirates International University organized an event titled: "The Prophet's Hijra: Lessons and Morals, and Imam Hussein, the Qiblah of the Rebels." The event was attended by the University President, Dr. Khaled Salah; the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Fouad Ismail Hanash; the President of Tontec University, Dr. Wael Al-Aghbari; Dr. Abdullah Jahaf; and the university's academic and administrative staff.
In his opening remarks, the University President, Dr. Khaled Salah, noted that the Prophet's Hijra was the turning point in the establishment of Islamic society and the launching of the civilizational presence of the Islamic nation. This great event deserves to be the beginning of Islamic history.
He noted that with the beginning of each new Hijri year, the nation commemorates the martyrdom of Abu Abdullah al-Hussein ibn Ali, peace be upon him. With this commemoration, the nation begins its new year. If the Prophet's migration was the founding of the Islamic state, then the Husseini revolution is a correction of the nation's path.
The university president emphasized that the commemoration of Ashura requires Muslims, at the beginning of their new year, to recall the meanings and goals of the revolution of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, by adhering to principles and values and assuming responsibility for religion and the issues of the nation.
The university president noted that the commemoration of Ashura is an opportunity to revisit the life of Imam Hussein and the leaders of guidance from the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, and to recognize their virtue and status, to draw from their guidance and struggle, and to engage with the suffering they endured, so that we can benefit from this in our current reality and our struggle against the forces of arrogance in our present age.
The seminar was presented by His Eminence, the scholar Fuad Naji, a member of the Yemeni Scholars Association. He presented a brief historical account of the most important events of the Prophet's migration and the significance it held for building the nation on the foundations of faith, patience, and conscious planning. He also spoke about the immortal epic of Karbala, emphasizing that Hussein, peace be upon him, was not killed as an individual, but rather because he was a resistance project and because he said, "Humiliation is far from us."
In the context of his speech, the scholar linked the injustice of Karbala to the injustice of Gaza, explaining that the killing, starvation, and siege taking place today in Palestine are an extension of the same approach of aggression. He explained that remaining silent about these crimes is tantamount to submission, and that supporting the oppressed is a religious duty.
He pointed out that the Yemeni people's stance today—led by the Leader, may God protect him—in supporting Gaza is not a passing political stance, but rather a natural extension of the Husseini spirit that rejects injustice, domination, and submission to the enemies of the nation. This faith-based stance stems from the same insight from which Hussein, peace be upon him, emerged.
The scholar concluded his speech with a moving spiritual sermon, calling for adherence to the path of the prophets and revolutionaries in the face of tyranny, and for education in sacrifice, patience, and dignity, especially among young people.
The event included an expressive poem that depicted the heroism of Hussein, peace be upon him, and linked it to the steadfastness of the heroes of Palestine. This poem touched the emotions of those present and garnered great interaction.
