In a groundbreaking scientific achievement, a graduate of Emirates International University (EIU) has achieved a research breakthrough in studying the biochemical properties of a rare plant, earning a Master's degree from Mersin University in Turkey.

Continuing the tradition of scientific excellence among EIU graduates, its alumni are achieving success in scientific research and postgraduate studies. Graduate Yanouf Abdulwahab Mohammed Abdullah has been awarded a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Biochemistry from the Faculty of Pharmacy – Department of Pharmaceutical Biochemistry at Mersin University in Turkey, after completing a groundbreaking research project considered among the most advanced studies in its field.

 

 His thesis was titled:

 

“INVESTIGATION OF THE BIOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF THE GLOBULARIA ANATOLICA PLANT”

 

The study investigated the biochemical properties of Globularia anatolica, representing the first scientific study of its kind conducted in Turkey. This included a detailed characterization of phenolic compounds using LC-MS/MS technology, evaluation of their antioxidant activity, and an investigation into their toxic effects on lung cancer cells (A549) and their inhibitory capacity for enzymes associated with diabetes and neurological diseases. The research findings were further enhanced using molecular docking to understand the binding mechanisms at the molecular level.

 

 Researcher Yanouf is among the first graduates of Emirates International University, having graduated in 2020 as part of the inaugural cohort of the Clinical Pharmacy (PharmD) program. He then embarked on his academic journey with confidence, achieving this scientific accomplishment that reflects the depth of the training he received during his undergraduate studies.

 

Speaking about this experience, researcher Yanouf Abdul Wahab Mohammed Abdullah expressed his pride in this achievement, saying: “I am very proud of this scientific journey that began at Emirates International University, where the academic and intellectual training I received during my undergraduate studies formed the true foundation for my entry into the field of scientific research. The university gave me the confidence and skills that helped me navigate postgraduate studies effectively and reach this level of excellence in scientific research. I look forward to continuing my scientific career and contributing to the development of pharmaceutical research in a way that serves humanity and health.”
