In an academic setting embodying the spirit of engineering creativity and applied excellence, the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering and Information Technology at Emirates International University witnessed the discussion of a unique graduation project entitled: “Residential Building Design – Orreen.” The project was presented by a select group of students from the department: Sami Hussein Qadri, Abdulrahman Hilal Al-Nahari, and Ali Amir Al-Zuba, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Suleiman Al-Safi and Dr. Ibrahim Al-Amri.
The project reflects the advanced academic qualifications of the university's students, through the integration of modern scientific and engineering aspects with the practical professional standards required by the job market. The students discussed a comprehensive engineering project that keeps pace with modern urban developments and embodies the concepts of smart structural design and contemporary architecture.
The discussion committee consisted of Professor Dr. Sulaiman Al-Safi, Professor Dr. Ibrahim Al-Amri, and Engineer Saddam Hussein, who commended the project's scientific and technical level and the students' high level of competence in analysis and design, as well as their ability to address engineering challenges according to precise scientific principles.
The "Oreen" project is considered an advanced model for mixed-use projects. The tower is designed with a modern architectural style that meets the needs of contemporary residential environments and is earthquake-resistant. It includes residential floors, while the ground floor and basement are dedicated to parking and support services, thus achieving functional and aesthetic integration of the building.
The project also addressed many technical requirements and fundamental conditions that are essential pillars of the structural engineer's work, starting from structural studies and designs, through auditing, execution, and technical supervision, culminating in a review of the design principles of structures using the Diagrid System. This is one of the modern engineering systems that gives buildings high structural efficiency and a distinctive architectural appearance.
The project wasn't limited to the academic aspect; it also served as an applied engineering reference aimed at serving engineers and civil and architectural engineering students, especially recent graduates, by providing a simplified and comprehensive scientific guide in Arabic. This guide contributes to enhancing professional knowledge and developing practical skills in design, implementation, and supervision.
This project underscores the commitment of the Emirates International University to equipping its students with the highest academic and professional standards through a state-of-the-art learning environment, a distinguished faculty, and high-quality practical training. This commitment fosters graduates capable of innovation, competitiveness, and building a promising engineering future.
