Student Innovation Reshapes the Future of Agriculture in Yemen: A Digital Platform to Enhance Agricultural Quality and Marketing

In an academic setting reflecting a spirit of innovation and commitment to community issues, the Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences witnessed the discussion of a distinguished graduation project by students from the Department of Management Information Systems. The project involved developing an integrated digital platform called AQS – AgriQual System, which aims to bring about a qualitative shift in improving agricultural operations and agricultural marketing in Yemen.
This project fulfilled the requirements for completing a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, affirming the quality of educational outcomes and the students' ability to translate academic knowledge into practical solutions that address real-world needs.
The project was presented by students: Ayman Fahd Al-Hakimi, Mohammed Jamil Al-Hammadi, Mohammed Abdul-Alim Al-Hazmi, Ahmed Khalil Al-Asbahi, Hisham Rushdi Al-Badani, and Mohammed Faras Al-Haimi. Academic supervision was provided by: Dr. Ashwaq Al-Jaboubi and Dr. Safaa Al-Bahlouli.
The project was discussed in the presence of the university's Vice President, Dr. Ahmed Al-Badani, and before a high-level scientific committee chaired by Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ghailan, Head of the Management Information Systems Department, and including a distinguished group of academics: Dr. Safwan Al-Shaibani, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Haddad, Dr. Fahmi Al-Daqaf, Head of the Accounting and Financial and Banking Sciences Departments, and Professor Samah Hassan.
The AQS project stems from a deep understanding of the importance of the agricultural sector in Yemen and the challenges it faces, particularly regarding production quality and marketing difficulties. The platform offers an intelligent solution based on analyzing farm data and agricultural production stages, comparing them to internationally recognized standards adopted by organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. This allows for the provision of accurate reports and practical recommendations that contribute to improving crop quality and enhancing export opportunities.
The platform is not limited to the technical evaluation of crops; it extends beyond that to provide a comprehensive online agricultural marketplace that enables farmers to showcase their products directly and systematically, including photos, quantities, prices, and locations, thus promoting direct sales without intermediaries.
The platform also provides high-quality services connecting farmers with agricultural suppliers and traders, facilitating access to production inputs from reliable sources and enhancing the integration of the local agricultural system.
The system was developed using modern technologies including Python and Flask, along with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQLite databases. It features a user-friendly Arabic interface that caters to the needs of non-technical users, reflecting a deep understanding of user experience and the realities of the target environment.
The project is expected to contribute to improving the quality of agricultural crops, reducing losses resulting from export rejections, promoting direct marketing, protecting farmers from exploitation, and connecting them to a reliable network of suppliers.
This project reflects the university's commitment to excellence in its educational outcomes. Its role extends beyond providing theoretical knowledge to empowering students to develop innovative solutions that serve the community and support the national economy.
This is another success story added to the university's record of achievements, embodying a modern educational vision that cultivates future leaders and builds bridges of development from the classroom to the real world.
