The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Emirates International University Conducts a Practical Scientific Visit to the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center

As part of its commitment to enhancing practical application and bridging the gap between academic knowledge and professional practice, the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Emirates International University organized a practical scientific visit for third- and fourth-year students to the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center on Tuesday. The visit was supervised by Dr. Fahim Fara’a and the department coordinator, Dr. Safaa Darwish.
The visit aimed to introduce students to the specialized work involved in blood transfusion, familiarize them with the technical and scientific procedures used in blood and blood component testing, and the mechanisms for ensuring safety and quality. This will contribute to strengthening their practical understanding of hematology and related laboratory techniques, and connect their theoretical and practical studies in the university laboratories with the realities of national healthcare institutions.
The visit included a field tour of several vital departments and units at the center, including: the donation reception and eligibility department, the blood collection and sample collection department, the separation department, the blood sample testing department for infectious diseases, the storage and compatibility testing department, the blood bag dispensing department, as well as the serological and blood compatibility testing units, and the mechanisms for preserving and preparing blood for medical use. The visit also included an introduction to the research center's role in developing blood transfusion services.
During the visit, the students listened to detailed explanations provided by the center's technical and administrative staff about the work stages, the approved procedures, and the modern technologies used in the field of blood transfusion. This contributed to broadening their scientific knowledge and raising their professional readiness for the healthcare job market.
