In a practical demonstration of its academic and community mission, and as part of its educational programs aimed at linking theoretical knowledge with practical application, the College of Dentistry at the Emirates International University conducted a scientific and awareness-raising visit this morning, Thursday, for fifth-year students to Dar Al Rahma Orphanage. This visit, part of the preventive dentistry course, aimed to enhance children's health awareness regarding the importance of oral and dental care and to instill sound preventive behaviors that contribute to building sustainable oral health.
The visit was attended by Dr. Abdulqader Zabara, Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry; Dr. Haitham Al-Kumaim, Head of the Internship Program and Director of Clinics; Dr. Azal Atef, Academic Coordinator of the College; Dr. Naeema Rajih; Engineer Rashad Al-Sharabi; and a number of faculty and technical staff members from the College of Dentistry.
The scientific program of the visit included a simplified educational lecture for children, addressing the importance of oral and dental hygiene, proper teeth cleaning techniques, its role in preventing cavities and oral diseases, and its impact on overall health.
Following the lecture, 101 fifth-year dental students conducted preliminary dental examinations for 202 children, providing appropriate health guidance and advice for each case. This practical experience aimed to bridge the gap between theory and practice and to develop the students' interpersonal communication skills.
At the end of the visit, the university students expressed their satisfaction with this field experience, emphasizing the importance of such activities in promoting health awareness and serving the community, especially children, and in fostering a sense of human and professional responsibility.
For their part, the staff of the Al-Rahma Foundation for Orphans expressed their appreciation for the visit, thanking the university administration, the College of Dentistry, and the participating students for its positive impact on raising children's awareness and introducing them to the fundamentals of oral and dental health care.
This visit is part of a series of community activities implemented by the College of Dentistry at Emirates International University, reaffirming its commitment to its scientific and humanitarian mission and its active role in serving the community and spreading health awareness, especially among the most vulnerable groups.
