The Emirates International University organized a major oratory and cultural event on Tuesday to commemorate the Friday of Rajab, the anniversary of the Yemenis' entry into Islam. The event was attended by a large number of university faculty, staff, and students, in a spiritual and cultural atmosphere that reflected a deep sense of belonging and pride in their Islamic identity.
The event was attended by the University President, Dr. Khaled Ahmed Salah, the Vice President, Dr. Ahmed Al-Badani, and the Secretary General, Dr. Fouad Ismail Hanash, along with deans of faculties and a number of academic and administrative staff. This clearly demonstrates the university leadership's commitment to commemorating religious and historical occasions that strengthen awareness and identity within the university community.
During the event, a speech was delivered on behalf of the university by Dr. Fouad Ismail Hanash, the university's Secretary-General. He addressed the profound significance of the Friday of Rajab, considering it a pivotal historical moment that marked the greatest transformation in the Yemeni people's journey, as they embraced Islam with conviction and faith. He emphasized the importance of solidifying authentic faith-based belonging and strengthening awareness of identity in the face of intellectual and cultural challenges targeting societies and future generations.
Cultural activist Abu Saleh Atef also delivered an important lecture, highlighting the significance of this blessed occasion and its religious and civilizational dimensions. He discussed the responsibility of educational institutions in protecting identity, building awareness, and strengthening the connection to the Holy Quran and the teachings of God.
The event included expressive video presentations that embodied the symbolism of the Friday of Rajab and its place in the Yemeni consciousness. A poem was also recited, expressing pride in faith-based identity and Islamic affiliation. A traditional Yemeni dance performance added a distinctive heritage element, reflecting the deep connection between religious identity and authentic Yemeni culture.
As part of the practical commemoration of the occasion, the university staff, led by the university president, vice president, and secretary-general, organized a field visit to several Islamic and historical landmarks in the capital city of Sana'a. These included the Mosque of Amir al-Mu'minin Ali ibn Abi Talib, the Great Mosque of Sana'a, the Al-Halqa Market, and the Mosque of the Two Martyrs, in addition to other Islamic landmarks that hold a special place in the hearts of Yemenis. This visit vividly embodied the spirit of the occasion and connected generations to their faith-based and cultural heritage.
These activities are part of the Emirates International University's programs aimed at strengthening faith-based values, consolidating identity, and building a conscious university personality that combines knowledge with belonging. These programs contribute to preparing a generation that carries its message with awareness and faith, drawing strength from its history and authentic identity.
