UAE University Participates in Fourth Swimmin Championship for Students of Government and Private Universities and Community Colleges

The Emirates International University, represented by the Activities Department and a number of its students, participated in the Fourth Swimming Championship, organized by the Higher Education Sector of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Youth and Sports Office, the Swimming Federation Branch, and the Sam Recreational Club in the Capital Secretariat. The championship, which began today, included students from government and private universities and community colleges.

 

The championship featured 150 participants from 20 government and private universities and 10 government and private community colleges, competing in the 50-meter freestyle swimming race.

 

At the opening ceremony, attended by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Nabih Nasser, Deputy Minister of Education and Scientific Research Dr. Hatem Al-Duais emphasized the importance of sports activities in strengthening and consolidating the faith identity and national culture among university students, and in discovering, encouraging, and nurturing athletic talents and abilities.

 

 He commended the role of the General Administration of Activities in the Higher Education Sector in stimulating student activity by activating cultural, sports, and scientific activities and developing their intellectual, mental, and physical abilities, based on the vision of "a healthy mind in a healthy body."

 

Dr. Al-Duais pointed out the Ministry's commitment to organizing various sports tournaments throughout the year and holding scientific and cultural competitions in various fields. He directed the various sectors of the Ministry to facilitate all procedures related to student activities, support them, and overcome any difficulties to ensure their success.

 

He commended the engagement of participants from Yemeni universities and public and private community colleges, particularly those participating for the first time after joining the Higher Education Sector. He also commended the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Sam Recreational Club, and all those who contributed to the success of this tournament.

 

 During the opening ceremony, attended by the Executive Director of the Information Technology Center, Dr. Fouad Abdul Razzaq, and the directors of activities at universities and community colleges, Abdul Karim Al-Dahhak, Director General of Activities in the Higher Education Sector, praised the interaction of the participating parties and their contributions to the success of the fourth swimming championship between Yemeni university and community college students, most notably the Ministry of Youth, the Swimming Federation branch, and the Youth Office in the Secretariat.

 

He explained that the swimming championship took place over a single day, with qualifying rounds between participants over a 50-meter swimming distance. The second and third rounds then proceeded to the final round to determine the winners.

 

He highlighted the importance of the championship in selecting the best swimmers to form a national university swimming team. He emphasized the importance of sports activities in promoting activity and sportsmanship among university and community college students, and in striving to discover and develop talents and creativity among students in various fields.

 

Al-Dahhak urged universities and colleges to prioritize these activities and build a generation armed with knowledge, science, and a healthy and fit sportsmanlike spirit. The tournament's inauguration was attended by Professor Marwan Al-Zeraei, Registrar General, and Professor Abdel Halim Shams El-Din from the UAE University.
