On Monday, the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the International University of the Emirates organizes a distinguished scientific day to discuss graduation projects for laboratory medicine students for the academic year 1446 AH (2024-2025 AD). The event was attended by the university leadership, the deanship of the College of Medicine, members of the supervisory and discussion committees, a select group of faculty members, a group of academics and laboratory medicine professionals, and parents. The event was held in a festive scientific atmosphere that reflects the level of academic excellence the college strives for.
At the opening of the event, University President Professor Nasser Hadi Al-Muwafari expressed his pride in the College of Medicine's serious scientific projects related to the Yemeni health situation. He emphasized that the graduation projects we are discussing today are not merely academic requirements, but rather evidence of a high academic and professional awareness and a serious desire to contribute to solving real health problems. At the Emirates International University, we believe that supporting scientific research is not an option, but rather a necessity dictated by our educational and humanitarian mission.
In his speech, Professor Saleh Al Dhaheri, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, expressed his pride in the level achieved by the students of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, emphasizing that the college focuses on instilling a culture of applied scientific research among students. He said, "We are proud of the advanced research projects our students have accomplished, and we are constantly working to strengthen the connection of scientific research to reality and provide applicable solutions to tangible health problems."
For his part, Professor Fouad Ismail Hanash, Secretary-General of the University, emphasized the General Secretariat's commitment to supporting scientific research and developing students' capabilities. He noted that this scientific day embodies the spirit of science and responsibility, and confirms that university students are seriously engaging with the health challenges in their community through authentic scientific insights.
Professor Abdul Basit Al-Ghouri, Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, also delivered a speech on the occasion. He commended the efforts of the students and faculty members, emphasizing that the department works to instill a culture of qualitative scientific research among students. He added, "We in the Department of Laboratory Medicine consider the graduation project a true gateway for students into the world of scientific research, and we are keen for these projects to be an effective contribution to providing solutions to real health problems affecting society."
The scientific day saw four groups of students from the Department of Laboratory Medicine present their graduation projects, which varied in topics to address vital health issues in Yemeni society:
The first group discussed their research project entitled:
"Seroprevalence of TORCH infection among pregnant women with recurrent pregnancy loss in Sana'a City, Yemen, 2025." The project was prepared by the students: Raghda Mohammed Abdullah Mohammed Al-Najhi, Maria Fadl Saleh Ali Abdullah, Buthaina Fouad Mohammed Mohammed Al-Adini, Nismah Muath Ahmed Abdul Rahim Al-Drain, Hajar Wafd Faisal Mahfouz Khalifa, Duaa Khalil Taha Abdul Jabbar Al-Ghouri, Maria Mohammed Ahmed Saif, Jamila Ahmed Ahmed Al-Mukhdari, Ibtihal Khaled Mohammed Ahmed Al-Fishani, Iman Khaled Hussein Yahya Sharaha, and Ahlam Abdullah Abdul Qader Ali. The project was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Al-Mahbashi. The examination committee consisted of: Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Al-Mahbashi (Principal Supervisor), Professor Dr. Saleh Al-Dhaheri (External Examiner), and Dr. Taha Al-Nasari (Internal Examiner). The second group presented their project entitled: "Inflammatory Biomarkers, Complement C3, White Blood Cells, and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome - Sana'a, Yemen." The project was submitted by the following students:
Ikram Abdullah Abdulkarim Ahmed Al-Houthi, Afaf Ali Mansour Abdulqawi Taher, Ghada Mohammed Hamoud Ali Saida, Manar Khaled Saeed Hamid Al-Aghbari, Noura Mohammed Ahmed Ahmed Razeh, Hana Ali Mohammed Al-Kumaim, Hajar Mohammed Abdullah Muqbil Al-Dhubaibi, Malak Ahmed Abdo Al-Adashi, Malak Fawaz Qasim Saeed Al-Banna, and Zainab Ali Ahmed Mohammed Ghazwan. The project was supervised by Assistant Professor Abdulbasit Al-Ghouri (Principal Supervisor) and Dr. Balqis Al-Haribi (Co-Supervisor). The discussion committee consisted of: Assistant Professor Abdulbasit Al-Ghouri, Dr. Balqis Al-Haribi, Professor Walid Al-Dubai (External Examiner), and Dr. Taha Al-Nasari (Internal Examiner).
The third group discussed their project entitled "Prevalence of Thrombocytopenia in Pregnant Women in Yemen." The project was presented by students Yazid Abdulmalik Ali Abdul Aziz Al-Maghbash, Abdullah Saleh Mohammed Al-Aitari, Abdulrahman Mohammed Ahmed Faqihi, Yasser Haider Ali Saleh Al-Qutari, Hassan Samir Mohammed Ali Mahdi, Ziad Ahmed Ibrahim Bakhit, Elias Omar Mohammed Ahmed Ashur, and Hatem Hamoud Awad Fadel. The project was supervised by Prof. Hafez Al-Noud, Prof. Saleh Al-Dhaheri (external examiner), and Prof. Walid Al-Dabai (internal examiner). The fourth group concluded discussions with a project titled:
"Prevalence and Risk Factors of Prediabetes and Diabetes Among Yemeni Faculty Members at the Emirates International University." The project was presented by students: Salah Khaled Saeed Hamid Al-Aghbari, Ismail Mohammed Yahya Ali Al-Radmi, Asim Mutahhar Yahya Ahmed Al-Shaer, Abdul Aziz Abdullah Yahya Zayed, Wael Abdul Ghani Ahmed Abdullah, Khaled Ahmed Mohammed Abbas Al-Samawi, Ismail Faker Ali Ahmed Al-Qabati, Ahmed Abdullah Abdullah Mohammed Qurei, and Alaa Abdul Raqib Abdullah Abdo. The project was supervised by Prof. Walid Al-Dabai. The discussion committee consisted of: Prof. Walid Al-Dabai, Prof. Abdul Basit Al-Ghouri (external examiner), and Dr. Taha Al-Nasari (internal examiner).
This scientific day comes within the framework of the college's commitment to enhancing student competence and empowering them with the tools of scientific research and analysis, contributing to the preparation of qualified medical laboratory personnel capable of effectively contributing to the health sector in Yemen and abroad.
