Mechatronics Engineering Students at the Emirates International University Innovate in Designing and Developing a Smart Drone for Tracking and Exploration

In line with the academic and applied excellence that distinguishes the Emirates International University, a number of Mechatronics Engineering students discussed an innovative graduation project. The project involved designing and developing a smart drone for tracking, exploration, and live video streaming. The discussion was attended by a select group of specialized academic staff members.
The project, prepared by students Marwan Mohammed Daifallah, Zakaria Hassan Al Nuaimi, and Youssef Amin Al Taj, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Farouq Al Fahidi, Head of the Information Technology Department, aims to develop an intelligent flight system based on real-time digital image processing techniques. The mission begins with manual piloting toward the target location, then the drone automatically switches to self-tracking mode upon detection of the target. This enhances its efficiency in carrying out search and rescue, surveillance, and emergency missions.
The discussion session was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Radwan Al-Badiji, Head of the Mechatronics Department; Dr. Mohammed Al-Alafi, Head of the Medical Equipment Department; and Dr. Hisham Aqlan, a faculty member in the Information Technology Department, and the project supervisor, Dr. Farouk Al-Fahidi, praised the project's level of concept, implementation, and practical application.
