University President Nasser Al-Mofri, accompanied by Secretary-General Dr. Fouad Hanash, launched a blood donation campaign on Monday morning on campus for thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders patients, which is organized by the Department of Medical Laboratories, in coordination with the Yemeni Thalassemia Patients Association, and in cooperation with the National Center for Blood Transfusion and Research. This was attended by the Head of the Department of Medical Laboratories, Dr. Abdul Basit Al-Ghouri, Dr. Hafez Al-Noud, and a number of academic and administrative staff at the university.
During the launch, University President Dr. Nasser Al-Mofri stressed the university's constant keenness to support such voluntary campaigns that embody the values of goodness and giving, and encourage students and employees at the university to promote the principle of humanitarian assistance and social responsibility. He pointed out the importance of donating blood as it provides blood units for thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders patients and other patients who depend on blood transfusion.
The campaign, which was implemented in coordination with the academic medical team and the University Student Forum, and will continue for two days, included examining donors from employees, faculty members and university students before they donate, to ensure their bodies are ready for this, and to ensure their eligibility to donate.
During the campaign, awareness brochures were distributed about blood donation and its benefits, and the campaign witnessed a large turnout by university members and students on its first day to donate blood.
The number of blood donations during the first day exceeded 65 donors. The campaign is scheduled to conclude its activities tomorrow, Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
The closing day of the campaign will include a charity bazaar, the proceeds of which will go to thalassemia patients and hereditary blood disorders.
