In an academic display reflecting the ambition and engineering creativity of young minds, the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering and Information Technology at Emirates International University witnessed the discussion of a unique graduation project entitled “AXIS BUSINESS TOWER.” This project presents an advanced engineering model embodying the future of smart and sustainable towers, reflecting the high level of academic and practical training possessed by the university's students.
The project was created by students Hashim Hussein Al-Masaabi, Yahya Ali Mohammed Al-Nahi, and Abdullah Hamoud Jahfil. It was supervised by Professor Dr. Suleiman Al-Safi and Professor Dr. Ibrahim Al-Amri. The discussion committee consisted of Professor Dr. Suleiman Al-Safi, Professor Dr. Ibrahim Al-Amri, and Engineer Saddam Hussein.
The “AXIS BUSINESS TOWER” was more than just a traditional graduation project; it was a comprehensive architectural vision for a modern business landmark that combines architectural boldness and structural innovation in a professional design that keeps pace with the latest global trends in mixed-use tower design.
The project relied on the external Diagrid system as a key structural and architectural element. This modern system, used in advanced international towers, gives the building an exceptional visual identity, along with high efficiency in resisting lateral loads and earthquakes. It also minimizes internal columns and provides more flexible and open spaces suitable for modern business environments.
The design also rested on a central structural core supported by special moment-resisting frames. This core works in perfect harmony with the Diagrid System, achieving the highest levels of rigidity, stability, and structural safety. This clearly reflects the students' ability to apply complex engineering concepts to practical, realistic solutions that meet modern standards.
The project features a modern architectural style designed to serve commercial and administrative activities. The ground floor is dedicated to showrooms, shops, and support services, while the upper floors house administrative offices, companies, and business centers, aiming to create a professional work environment that combines functional efficiency with architectural appeal.
The project also focused on the concepts of sustainability, quality, and innovation by providing smart engineering solutions that contribute to increasing the building's efficiency and conserving resources, while adhering to the highest standards of safety and structural efficiency. This reflects the students' advanced engineering awareness and their ability to design projects that meet future demands.
Because true excellence is not measured solely by the beauty of the designs, but also by the depth of the idea and its scientific and professional impact, the project offers rich engineering content that can serve as a valuable resource for engineers and civil and architectural engineering students, particularly in the field of designing diagrid systems. It also addresses the technical requirements related to structural studies and designs, implementation, and technical supervision from a comprehensive professional perspective.
This project reaffirms that Emirates International University (EIU) goes beyond simply providing academic education. It cultivates engineering talent capable of transforming knowledge into tangible projects and producing high-quality graduates who meet the demands of the job market and compete with global visions and boundless ambition.
This is the story of students who didn't just dream; they designed a future that could one day become a landmark in modern cities.
