Engineer Omar Mohammed Saif Haider, a researcher at the Emirati International University, was awarded a Master's degree with distinction in Computer Networks from the Yemeni Academy for Graduate Studies for his pioneering thesis entitled:
“Using Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Diagnosing Strokes.” This scientific achievement reflects the researcher's excellence and creativity in employing modern technologies to serve the medical field and society. The public defense took place today in the presence of the University President, several deans, department heads, and the university's academic and administrative staff.
On the sidelines of the defense, University President Khaled Ahmed Salah extended his warmest congratulations to the researcher, expressing the university's pride in his distinguished scientific achievement, which adds to the record of successes of its faculty. He emphasized that this thesis represents a model to be emulated in academic innovation and the application of modern technologies to improve the quality of healthcare. He also indicated that the university will continue to support its faculty in applied scientific research and technological innovation, contributing to serving society and enhancing the university's standing both locally and internationally.
The examining committee, chaired by Dr. Munir Al-Makhlafi and including Dr. Mohammed Al-Alfi and Dr. Farouk Al-Fahidi, commended the advanced scientific level of the dissertation. They considered its findings a significant step forward in employing artificial intelligence to diagnose strokes and cerebral hemorrhages. This was achieved through the development of models based on computed tomography (CT) scans to expedite diagnosis and support medical decision-making, particularly in environments with a shortage of specialized personnel.
The study aimed to analyze brain images using deep neural networks and classify them as normal, cerebral hemorrhage, and ischemic stroke, accurately pinpointing the location of the lesion. This resulted in highly accurate and rapidly processed results, reflecting the growing role of artificial intelligence in improving early diagnosis and supporting physicians in critical cases.
Furthermore, members of the university's academic and administrative staff expressed their pride in the researcher and his achievement, emphasizing that the dissertation represents a distinguished example of excellence and innovation among the university's faculty and embodies the university's commitment to supporting its staff in their pursuit of scientific research and academic excellence.
