My Son Autism Center launches the first national camp for the diagnosis and assessment of children with autism in Sana'a

The Deputy Minister of Health for Health Management and Quality Control, Dr. Abdulwahab Hadi, inaugurated today, Monday, the first diagnostic camp of the national campaign for the diagnosis and assessment of children with autism in the capital city. The camp is being implemented by the My Son Autism Center, in partnership with the Bunyan Development Foundation, and with the participation of the Emirates International University as a sponsor, as part of the integrated efforts of official, community, and academic bodies to serve the issues of childhood and public health.

During the inauguration, the Deputy Minister emphasized that the camp represents a medical and humanitarian initiative targeting an important segment of Yemeni children. He praised the role of the My Son Autism Center as a specialized implementing body and commended the ongoing cooperation with the sponsoring entities and partners. He also affirmed the Ministry of Health's commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure healthcare for this group.

 The camp witnessed active field participation from students of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences – Department of Human Medicine at the Emirates International University, as part of the university's contribution to supporting the campaign's activities and embodying its role in community partnership and linking medical education with practical reality, thus contributing to preparing conscious and responsible medical professionals.

In the same context, the university was represented at the campaign launch by the university's Public Relations Officer, Professor Osama Nour El-Din, who emphasized that the university's participation in sponsoring this national campaign stems from its social responsibility and its belief in the importance of contributing to health and humanitarian issues, especially those related to childhood and early diagnosis. He stressed that involving medical students in such initiatives is a fundamental pillar in building their practical experience and instilling humanitarian values in their professional careers.

He added that the university is keen to strengthen its partnerships with specialized health and community institutions, which contributes to transforming academic knowledge into a tangible, practical impact that serves the community, enhances health awareness, and supports national efforts in addressing developmental disorders.

 For his part, Engineer Samir Al-Barawi, Director of the Ibni Autism Center, affirmed that the campaign represents an urgent national response to address a significant gap in the diagnosis of autism in Yemen. He explained that the Ibni Center is implementing the campaign on the ground using a modern scientific methodology that relies on localizing the latest global standards and technologies through the automation of diagnostic tools. This ensures accuracy and speed, contributing to the development of a clear treatment and rehabilitation plan for each child from the moment of diagnosis.

Al-Barawi pointed out that the campaign focuses on early diagnosis as a fundamental prerequisite for the success of therapeutic and educational interventions. He noted the introduction of international programs and standards being implemented for the first time in Yemen, alongside an awareness campaign to correct misconceptions associated with autism spectrum disorder.

He emphasized that screening and assessment services are provided completely free of charge, taking into account the circumstances of families and alleviating their financial burdens. He affirmed that this achievement is the result of integrated efforts between the Ministry of Health, the Ibni Autism Center as the primary implementing body, and the sponsoring entities, most notably the Emirates International University, with active community support from the Bunyan Development Foundation.
