Third-year Chemical Engineering Students Present Innovative Scientific Projects in the "Unit Operations" Course

In a scientific atmosphere brimming with creativity, the College of Engineering and Information Technology at the Emirates International University hosted a presentation session on Thursday for third-year Chemical Engineering students in the "Unit Operations" course. These presentations demonstrated the students' excellence and their ability to transform theoretical knowledge into promising practical applications.

 

The project discussion was attended by University President Dr. Khaled Ahmed Salah, who expressed his pride in the high quality of the submitted projects. He emphasized that the students' contributions reflect the fruits of academic effort and embody the university's mission to graduate competent individuals capable of serving the community. Also present were the Dean of the College, Dr. Ibrahim Farea; the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Hani Damaj; and the course instructor and project supervisor, Dr. Saad Al Balta.

 

During the presentation, student groups presented various projects, as follows:

 

• Group One: The "Air Purifying System" project, which relies on drawing in air and passing it through special filters to remove dust, pollutants, and odors, then re-exhaling clean, healthy air. (Aya Shamsi, Hala Abdul Wahid, Weam Al-Ashwal).

 

• Group Two: A project on "Micro-simulation of the distillation process" using a laboratory model of a glass condenser integrated with a cooling water recirculation system, enabling safe and efficient study of industrial processes. (Abdulrahman Muhammad Balhamer, Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Aini, Radwan Ali Nahshal, Abdullah Al-Qudsi).

 

• Group Three: A project on designing a multi-stage home water purification unit using local materials, offering a practical and affordable solution to improve water quality through physical and chemical filtration techniques. (Ali Al-Muqaddami, Fadhel Sawadi Jibran, Muhammad Naji Rajeh, Amir Al-Hamzi).

 

• Group Four: A project on a water purification device using reverse osmosis technology, capable of removing impurities, salts, and dissolved minerals, for use in laboratory and scientific experiments. (Amr Al-Sarouri, Ahmed Al-Ariqi, Abdulrahman Nabil, Shadi Al-Aswad, Osama Hazam).

 

 • Group Five: A project to extract the active ingredient from mint by steam distillation, to produce highly purified essential oils with therapeutic and aromatic value. (Intisar Al-Qurashi, Heba Ragheb Mahyoub).

 

• Group Six: A project to electroplate copper cells, to deposit a copper layer on metals to give them new properties such as corrosion resistance, increased conductivity, and a metallic luster. (Salah Jassar, Mustafa Al-Sawari, Khaled Walid).

 

At the conclusion of the event, attendees praised the students' efforts and the outstanding level of the projects, which combined innovation with practical application. They emphasized that these models represent an important step towards preparing a generation of engineers capable of providing practical solutions that serve industry and society.
