On Tuesday, the Emirates International University witnessed the discussion of several qualitative and innovative graduation projects by students from the Information Security Department in the College of Engineering and Information Technology. The discussions were attended by Dr. Jameel Rashid, Head of the Cybersecurity Department; Dr. Hisham Aqlan; Dr. Mohammed Al-Khawlani; Engineer Zaid Al-Washli, a teaching assistant in the department; and Engineer Alia Al-Arasi, the department's academic coordinator.
These discussions are part of the university's strategic direction to support excellence and innovation and motivate students to provide technical solutions that serve society and enhance cybersecurity. These projects demonstrated the students' competence and the university's distinguished academic output.
The first project discussed was a digital forensics investigation automation system. The project was submitted by students: Mohammed Khairat, Mohammed Haroun, and Younis Al-Dahan, under the supervision of Dr. Hisham Aqlan and the assistance of Engineer Mohammed Al-Shamali.
The project aims to develop a system that automates the stages of digital investigations on storage devices, from data collection and analysis to reporting. This contributes to accelerating investigations, reducing human error, and protecting information from leakage. The system includes an integrated database, user management, and graphical interfaces that facilitate its effective operation and management.
The second project was the Security Threat and Defense Analysis System (SSDT). The project was submitted by students Ahmed Shawqi Al-Jowfi, Basil Masoud Issa, Hamid Al-Qamasi, Wissam Al-Maghribi, Imad Al-Harbi, and Muhammad Yahya Taher, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Muhammad Al-Khawlani and with the assistance of Engineer Alia Al-Araasi.
The project focuses on developing an integrated system based on open source tools such as Wazuh and Suricata to monitor and analyze logs, monitor network traffic, and detect threats. The system is built on a unified SIEM architecture with a graphical interface that is easy to use even for non-experts, making it a promising step towards building resilient and scalable national cyber defense systems.
These projects reflect the excellence of the university's Information Security/Cybersecurity Department and its commitment to keeping pace with technological developments and meeting the needs of the labor market by preparing qualified personnel with knowledge and skills.
