“Vertex Tower”: A Unique Graduation Project by Civil Engineering Students at the UAE University Reflecting Engineering Excellence and Professional Standards

In an academic setting reflecting the high level of engineering excellence and applied innovation that the UAE International University is committed to, a group of students from the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering and Information Technology discussed their unique graduation project, “Vertex Residential and Commercial Tower.” This comprehensive engineering project embodies the university students’ ability to translate academic knowledge into modern architectural solutions that meet the demands of contemporary development and construction.

 

The project was presented by students Ayman Ali Al-Hamdani, Emad Humair Nimran, Meshal Asam Al-Mashriqi, and Aref Mohammed Al-Jaradi, under the supervision of Dr. Ibrahim Al-Amri and Professor Dr. Suleiman Al-Safi, in fulfillment of the requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering for the academic year 2025-2026.

 

The discussion committee consisted of Professor Dr. Suleiman Al-Safi, Professor Dr. Ibrahim Al-Amri, and Engineer Saddam Hussein.

 

 The project is an advanced architectural model for an integrated residential and commercial tower called “Vertex Tower,” located in Sana'a, Yemen. It has a total area of 5,270 square meters and a height of 64.5 meters, comprising 18 floors that include a shopping mall, restaurants and cafes, as well as modern residential units designed according to an architectural vision that combines functionality, luxury, and sustainable urban development.

 

The project focused on providing an advanced engineering and structural study that addressed the principles of designing hybrid dual-system structures. These systems rely on special shear walls, special moment frames, and cantilever systems, in addition to employing advanced seismic analysis methods for irregular structures. This reflects the high level of scientific and applied training that students at the Emirates International University acquire during their academic journey.

 

 The team also ensured that the project would serve as a simplified scientific reference in Arabic for engineers and students interested in structural engineering. This was achieved by explaining numerous technical concepts and design requirements in clear and accessible scientific language, thus contributing to the enrichment of Arabic engineering content and supporting future generations of engineers.

 

The discussion reflected a high level of scientific competence and analytical ability among the students. The examining committee commended the quality of the engineering presentations, the accuracy of the studies and designs, and the ability to address structural challenges according to advanced academic and professional standards.

 

This project is an extension of the Emirates International University's approach to preparing engineering professionals capable of innovation and creativity. This is accomplished through a modern educational environment, a qualified academic staff, and practical training that contributes to producing high-quality graduates capable of competing and actively contributing to building a promising urban and developmental future.
