As part of its strategic direction to enhance the competence of its students and prepare them to meet the requirements of the oil and technical market, the College of Engineering and Information Technology, Department of Oil and Gas Engineering, at the university, launched a specialized training course entitled "Computer Applications in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Using the MBAL Program." The course targets third- and fourth-year students in the Oil and Gas Engineering Department. The three-day course will be presented by Associate Professor Dr. Abdulraqeeb Al-Qadi, Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Hadhramout University, and hosted by the Emirates International University for the 2025-2026 academic year. The course focuses on empowering students with theoretical concepts and practical applications related to enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques using the MBAL program, which specializes in simulating oil reservoirs and analyzing production data.
The three-day course will cover the following topics: an introduction to enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques, its types, and advantages; an introduction to the MBAL program and its applications in reservoir engineering; the entry and analysis of field data related to oil production and performance indicators; modeling and evaluation of enhanced reservoir recovery scenarios; and practical applications on real-world field projects to train students on using the program in a simulated environment close to real-world situations.
The course opened today, Sunday, at the College of Engineering and Information Technology building, in the presence of Dr. Fouad Ismail Hanash, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs. In his opening remarks, he emphasized that the university seeks, through these applied programs, to produce graduates who are highly competitive in their fields of specialization and who keep pace with global technological developments.
The Dean of the College of Engineering also highlighted the importance of enhancing the digital and analytical skills of students in engineering majors and across the university's various disciplines, emphasizing that the training program is part of the college's plan to develop students' capabilities and prepare them to work in complex industrial environments such as the oil and gas sector.
