The Department of Chemical Engineering at Emirates International University offers a four-year program )150 credit hours( that is generally sufficient to prepare graduates for all stages of the chemical industry, whether in development or research in various fields including chemicals, petrochemicals, petroleum refining, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, desalination, water control, Environmental pollution, metal processing and food technology .
The academic program in the first two years is designed to provide students with the necessary background in physics, chemistry, mathematics and engineering subjects such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science and principles of chemical engineering. In the third and fourth years, students learn about the basic topics of mass, heat and momentum transfer, unit processes, reaction kinetics, separation processes, plant design and process control .
The program offers technical electives that provide a great deal of flexibility and allow students to pursue special interests in areas such as biotechnology, polymer science, or renewable energy. Students are also required to spend 6 weeks of industrial training in different chemical industries, giving them exposure to real engineering work. During the final year of the programme, students work on a group design project to design a chemical plant using all the knowledge they have gained in chemical engineering during their studies and training .
