Vision

To become a nationally recognized department of excellence in biomedical engineering through its innovative and high-quality educational and research programs,  with a focus on training, and partnerships with national health and medical centers

Mission

Offering a high-level academic curriculum in biomedical engineering, strong practical experience, and skills in effective communication, teamwork, and critical analytical thinking, and Entrepreneurship enabling  graduates to contribute to community development, pursue successful professional development, and/or pursue studies in biomedical engineering and related disciplines. The department also aims to conduct research in effective partnerships with local and national medical institutions to meet the needs of the community and the regional market.

Objectives

The objectives of the Department of Biomedical Engineering are summarized as follows:

1. Providing the necessary knowledge, education and exemplary training in the field of biomedical engineering that prepares graduates for professional life in various managerial and technical positions.

2. Providing students with the necessary abilities to apply knowledge and think clearly, creatively, rationally, and originally when designing, analyzing, programming, building, and maintaining medical devices and equipment.

3. Providing graduates with diverse skills that enhance their capabilities and readiness for a successful career in the local and regional labor market.

4. Providing opportunities for graduates to develop a sense of responsibility, lifelong learning skills, communication and teamwork skills, and a sound understanding of professional ethics and global, economic, environmental, and social issues relevant to the specialty.

5. Encouraging an academic environment that stimulates development and high-quality scientific research.

6. Engaging  in activities that enhance the ability of staff, faculty, and alumni to deal with technological and professional development.

7. Effectively  contribute   to community development and respond  to the challenges of sustainable development

Department head’s speech

First, we welcome our dear students and visitors to the university website. I would like to provide an overview of the department. Biomedical Engineering is one of the newest engineering disciplines that emerged with the development of modern medicine, which is based on a group of highly sophisticated medical devices responsible for diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. Therefore, it was necessary to involve other specialists from fields other than medicine, combining engineering and medical sciences, so that they would be responsible for designing these devices with great efficiency. Whereas previously, doctors alone performed all diagnostic and treatment tasks, and even manufactured drugs, medical devices became an essential complement to doctors in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring patients.  Given the urgent need to develop medical devices and equipment to serve the health of patients and speed up their recovery, it was necessary to involve specialists from fields other than medicine, such as engineers, to design these devices. They were also required to have a thorough understanding of medical sciences, including human anatomy and physiology, to understand the mechanism of each system and harness their knowledge and expertise to develop these devices. Consequently, the need arose for an engineer who is partially familiar with all of these specialties and who can interact with doctors, while noting that he is not a substitute for any of them. Biomedical equipment and devices engineering is a major that bridges medical, physiological, and engineering sciences, as well as other related sciences such as computer engineering, control engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Biomedical equipment engineering offers significant opportunities for creativity, development, and invention, enabling students to utilize this field for practical purposes. Biomedical equipment engineering applies the knowledge and expertise available in engineering and medicine to benefit humanity through the design of medical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prosthetic devices.
