In an academic atmosphere brimming with creativity and ambition, Emirates International University witnessed the discussion of a unique graduation project entitled: “The Impact of Digital Transformation on the Performance of Yemeni Banks (A Case Study of Al-Kuraimi Bank),” as part of the requirements for obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking.
The project, prepared by a select group of distinguished students: Ahmed Ali Mahdi Al-Jabri, Hussein Marsh Hamoud Ghaleb, Ali Ahmed Noman Sharyan, Mohammed Hamoud Al-Azzi Mohammed Saeed, and Hisham Ghamdan Ali Ahmed Omar Al-Absi, was supervised by Dr. Mohammed Sajwa.
The discussion committee consisted of a distinguished group of academics and experts, including: Dr. Abdulwasea Al-Daqqaq (external examiner), Dr. Mohammed Al-Kahali, Dr. Jabr Al-Sunbani, Dr. Fahmi Al-Daqqaf, and Professor Ru’a Al-Mujahid, who commended the project's high level of scholarly presentation, depth of analysis, and research methodology.
The project addressed one of the most pressing issues in the contemporary banking sector, exploring digital transformation as an indispensable strategic option in light of rapid technological advancements. It went further, applying the discussion to the Yemeni context, highlighting the exceptional challenges facing banks and how technology can become a tool for resilience and sustainability.
The students selected Al-Kuraimi Islamic Microfinance Bank as a leading case study, showcasing how the bank transformed from a mere financial institution into a broad financial inclusion platform through an ambitious vision embodied in its slogan: “An account in every Yemeni home.”
The project revealed the success factors that drove this experience, most notably: bold investment in digital infrastructure, expansion of the banking agent network, development of innovative financial services and applications, and a focus on underserved segments of the population.
Despite economic challenges, the bank demonstrated an exceptional ability to persevere, grow, and reach millions of customers, becoming a model to be emulated in similar environments.
The project went beyond mere description, offering an in-depth analysis of the relationship between digital transformation strategies and the financial and operational performance of banks. It raised fundamental questions about the potential for replicating Al-Karimi Bank's experience and the crucial factors behind its success.
This discussion reflects the academic excellence achieved by the Emirates International University, which goes beyond simply providing theoretical knowledge, focusing instead on cultivating minds capable of analyzing reality and developing solutions.
This project confirms that the university's graduates confidently enter the job market, equipped with research, analytical, and innovative skills, thus strengthening their presence in vital sectors, particularly the banking and financial sector.
Here, success isn't made by chance; it's built on knowledge and measured by impact.
