In an academic setting reflecting the maturity of educational outcomes and their direct relevance to real-world challenges, the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences at the Emirates International University witnessed the discussion of a unique graduation project by a group of students specializing in Finance and Banking. The project, titled "The Potential for Transitioning to Open Banking in Yemeni Banks: An Analytical Study with a Comprehensive Implementation Plan," is one of the advanced models that embodies the university's commitment to promoting applied, innovation-based education and linking academic knowledge to the needs of the financial and banking market in Yemen.
The project was presented by students: Mohammed Ayoub Al-Saeed, Ibrahim Sadiq Al-Kutay, Uday Mohammed Al-Kholani, Bashir Nadhir Al-Khali, Omar Mohammed Rawah, Bahaa Al-Din Mahdi Al-Qubati, Rabie Al-Sadai, and Yousef Adel Al-Jaber, under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Sajwa.
The study reflected a deep awareness of global transformations in the banking sector and a high level of analytical ability in exploring opportunities to implement the open banking model as a key feature of digital transformation in financial services.
The study employed a rigorous scientific methodology, relying on field data from 49 banking leaders and IT experts to provide a realistic assessment of the readiness of Yemeni banks.
The results showed: promising technological readiness (79.2%), reflecting the potential for digital transformation; clear legislative challenges due to the absence of regulatory legal frameworks; a significant impact of economic and political conditions (94.6%) as a major obstacle; and a high level of awareness among banking staff regarding the importance of open banking in improving customer experience and enhancing competitiveness.
The study did not stop at analysis; it also presented a comprehensive practical roadmap, starting with technological modernization and human resource development, and culminating in achieving digital integration and strengthening partnerships with fintech companies.
The discussion committee consisted of a select group of academics: Dr. Abdulwasea Al-Daqqaq (external examiner), Dr. Mohammed Al-Kahali, and Dr. [Name Missing]. Jabr Al-Sunbani, Dr. Fahmi Al-Daqaf, and Ms. Ru'a Al-Mujahid.
The committee commended the project's outstanding academic level, considering it a model that reflects the quality of academic training at the university and the students' ability to produce applicable scientific solutions that contribute to the development of the Yemeni banking sector.
This project confirms that the Emirates International University does not merely provide knowledge, but cultivates a generation of competent individuals capable of leading transformation and formulating innovative solutions to national challenges.
Here, students graduate not just with degrees, but with visions capable of making a difference.
